Nails 101

Our hands are one of the most neglected areas of our body –especially the nails. We tend to get so caught up in our daily lives that it becomes extremely difficult to maintain them! However, having well-groomed nails and soft hands help boost your confidence and appearance as well as maintain good hygiene. Whether you are a mom, college student, or a professional you’ll want to pay close attention to the following tips to have beautiful and healthy hands and nails.

  1-Trim! Trim!

Use a nail clipper weekly to cut your nails. Long nails are hard to work with if you are always on-the-go. Use oil, lotion, or serum to soften your cuticles, push them back and trim them. Next, use a buffer to help soften the edges of your nail. Then, wash them to remove nail dust and use a nail file to shape them to your own liking.

 2-Goodbye dirt!

Have a nail brush next to your toothbrush. Use it a few times a week to remove dirt or any accumulations under the nail. A lot of times germs and bacteria like to stick around this area cause fungus or disease. Wash your hands with warm water and mild soap and get scrubbing!

 3- And while you’re at it…

At the same you are scrubbing under your nails, use a pumice stone around the nails to get rid of any dead skin. This exfoliates this skin and helps resurface new, soft skin! Throughout time and the chemicals that we use at home, its may cause the skin to dry and peel. Using the pumice will take care of that!

4- Nails need to breath too!

Make sure that you give your nails a few days to breath before you apply your next polish.  It’ll keep them from turning yellow and also build a strong foundation. When it’s time to apply your favorite nail polish, use a nail strengthener base to keep them strong and from breaking.

5- Your On-The-Go essentials!

Keep a travel-size hand lotion and small nail file in your makeup bag.  Occasional chips may occur during the day and can cause a headache and possibly tempt you to bite your nails! On the other hand, your lotion will come in handy whenever your hands feel dry and rough. Applying lotion as soon as you wash your hands will help restore moisture leaving them hands soft! It also doubles as a cuticle softener!
