In observation of Hispanic Heritage Month, the Latino Cultural Center and the Dallas Mexican American Historical League proudly announce the opening of their Fall 2016 exhibition; The Rise of the Mexican American Middle Class in Dallas: 1950 – Present. This informative exhibition will include a variety of historical pictures local to the Dallas area. The show will run from September 9 – October 15, 2016.
Sixty-five years ago, several high schools in Dallas served the greater Mexican American population. While the curriculum discouraged higher education by placing students in vocational courses, individuals rose to the challenge of leadership by embracing entrepreneurial opportunities and scholastic achievement. This created the framework for Latino-based service organizations that helped to raise awareness of Mexican American social and economic issues. This exhibition will document the rise of the Mexican American middle class in Dallas.
The opening reception and exhibit was sponsored by Ford Motor Company and took place on Friday, September 9, 2016 with the participation of local Latino Leaders.
