#214Selena – Dallas Honors the Legacy of the Queen of Tejano

Oak Cliff Cultural Center presents #214Selena – Dallas honors the legacy of the Queen of Tejano

March 29th – 31st, 2019 // Dallas, Texas

in collaboration with De Colores Collective, Sour Grapes, and Texas Theatre

#214Selena pays homage to the legendary Queen of Tejano, Selena Quintanilla-Perez. Now in its sixth year, this celebration of the Mexican-American musical icon has grown into a signature series that honors the life and music of Selena.

The tribute begins with an all-ages Karaoke night at Oak Cliff Brewing Co on Friday from 6p to 10p. On Saturday, the celebration continues with an Art Show from 5p to 8p at the Oak Cliff Cultural Center and a screening of the film at the Texas Theatre at 8pm. There will also be a party at Top Ten Records celebrating the Selena mural by artist Jeremy Biggers during the film.

Afterwards, the party continues at Club Dada from 10pm to 2am with DJ’s Mutemor, Rocit and Storm of Faded Deejays, DJ Fuegito, DJ Teezydoesit, DJ Max Power of the Boom Boom Pum! collective and special guest Principe Q – half of Royal Highness, nephew of Selena and son of A.B. Quintanilla III (The Selena party is for ages 21 and up). Finally, the weekend wraps up on Sunday with Selena Day as we host a lookalike contest, lowrider show, and vendor market at Country Burger in Oak Cliff, a widely recognized hub of Selena memorabilia. This portion of the event is all ages, and from 1pm to 5pm. The Lookalike Contest will host contestants presenting their impressions of the late singer through song, dance, and likeness. Car Clubs will be present with their award-winning lowriders while vendors will make up a Selena themed pop-up market.

#214Selena aims to pay homage to one of the most impactful artists to the Latino community and highlight the resounding effect Quintanilla-Perez’ music. A pivotal figure in American society, Selena’s music continues to contribute to the fabric of everyday life in communities that go beyond the Mexican diaspora in America and on to a global scale.
