State Fair of Texas opens next Friday and we have your Guide Ready!

This years State Fair of Texas will be the return of Big Tex! The 52ft icon has been around since 1952 but was recently damaged in a fire last October. Big Tex returns to the new Big Tex Circle where a larger than-life unveiling ceremony will take place next Friday, September 27th at 2pm.

Here are a few of options of what to do at this years State fair of Texas.

tumblr_ljko5ePZbu1qaoe1oo1_400For your music entertainments make sure you stop by the all new Silverado Main Stage, an Outdoor festival-type venue, showcasing concerts all week long and headliners on weekends. Some include Tejano artists such as David Lee Garza, Ram Herrera, Jay Perez, Marcos Orozco and Duelo. Former Destiny Child Singer, Hip-hop and R&B Artist, Kelly Rowland and boy band, X-factor runner up, Emblem3.

Visit Chinese Lantern Festival which is set to ignite the lagoon at Fair Park all over again—this time with 24 spectacular lantern displays. The Lantern Festival wowed Dallas last year with brilliant, glowing artworks in vivid colors, and promises even more impressive displays this year when it opens on September 27 with the State Fair of Texas®. This year’s festival theme is Light a New Dream. Daily from 10 a.m. until 10 p.m.

Don’t forget the delicious foods across the State Fair or better known as The Fried Food Capital of Texas! This years 2013 Big Tex Choice Award Winners have been announced. For Best Tasting the winner was the Deep Fried Cuban Balls and winner for the Most Creative was the Fried Thanksgiving Dinner. Makes sure you go with an appetite!

The Mundo Latino exhibit, presents LUCHA LIBRE, the History behind the Mask. The exhibit covers the history and significance of the Luchadors (masked wrestlers) from its conception to current day. Featured inside the Women’s Museum are daily attractions of the exhibit, great shopping of Mexican jewelry, clothes, purses and textiles from Latin America and lively presentations of Latin music and dance. Open daily for free from 10:00 am – 7:00 p.m.

Catch all the attractions in Midway including the new Top of Texas Tower. It is completed and ready for its State Fair of Texas debut. The 500-ft Tower ride carries a maximum of 100 occupants per trip along a 450-ft ascent. The 360-degree is arguably the best view of the downtown Dallas skyline. The cost of the ride is $7 per person (requires 14 food/ride coupons).

The State Fair of Texas® welcomes football fans to the historic football stadium for three outstanding Saturdays of college football. This years Rivalry’s are Army VS LA Tech 09/28, Grambling State VS Prairie View A&M 10/5 and Texas VS Oklahoma 10/12

Enjoy the Illumination Sensation along the 700-ft reflecting pool offering lights, music, dancing water and pyrotechnics at 8pm nightly. Also come with the family to experience the sparkling Starlight Parade that glides through the fair park every evening at 7:15.

Saddle up for a numerous of Livestock, agriculture shows, competitions, Garden Show, Auto Show , Museums, Creative Arts and other fun filled events.
