The Wellness Task Force of DFW hosted their first annual Hispanic Health Summit. Community members and leaders gather at the Latino Cultural Center for the first annual Hispanic Health Summit. Healthcare, education, and poverty in the Hispanic population and what can be done to help and prevent these issues were some of the topics that the special guests talked about. Strategies and call to action was encourage through out the event.
Dallas County Commissioner Dr. Elba Garcia, Mayor Pro Tem Monica Alonzo, Exec. Chief Jesse Flores on behalf of Sheriff Lupe Valdez, Dr. Catalina Garcia, Regina Montoya, Dr. Harold De Las Alas, and Martha Rocha, were some of the special guest speakers.
“We are part of the statistics, let’s be part of the statistics that help each other”, said Monica Alonzo, talking about the 42.8% Dallas’ Latino population. “The message of health awareness has to be given”, said Delia Jasso, Senior Director of Community Relations for Children’s Medical Center.
Children’s Medical Center, Hispanic Women Network of Texas, Hispanic 100, National Association of HIspanic Nurses and the Hispanic Wellness Coalition are part of the Wellness Task Force of DFW.
