The H. Paxton Moore Fine Art Gallery Presents “Time and Temperature, a Contemporary Ceramic Exhibition”

The H. Paxton Moore Fine Art Gallery at El Centro College proudly presents Time and Temperature, a Contemporary Ceramic Exhibition open to the public. Curated by newly appointed Gallery Director, Ashlyn Lee (Dallas, TX), Time and Temperature will feature the work of seven local, national, and international artists. This exhibition is accompanied by an academic catalog featuring an essay by local writer and curator Allison Klion (Dallas).

Exhibit Dates: October 4 – October 25

Opening Reception: October 4, 6 – 8 p.m.

The exhibition is centered on questioning traditional modes of display, form, interaction, and concepts of ceramic art. Alisa Ochoa (Los Angeles) includes intimate ceramic sculptures, of which visitors are encouraged to touch, on a table designed site responsively to Dallas’ Fair Park. Kelly O’Briant (Dallas) casts ceramic vessels into resin to explore the idea of documenting the space surrounding an object with transparent materials. Brian Molanphy (Dallas) creates a grid-like structure of forty-two wall hanging containers in response to the poetic writings of W.S. Merwin and the artist’s experience as a professional baker. Polen Ceramic Studio (Lima, Peru), in partnership with Amil Proyectos, shares a collaborative video of an amplified experience workshop on the sounds of a ceramic studio and making clay objects to produce sounds. Jer’Lisa Devezin (Dallas) forms ceramic investigations and abstractions of braids, dreads, and other objects or imagery of her queer, black identity. Brandon McGahey (Dallas) explores traditional bowl throwing through unique, alternative methods and materials of glazing.
