Armas Desnudas is the title of the latest exhibition of new works by Dallas artist Rosemary Meza-DesPlas. Translated from Spanish, armas desnudas means “naked guns”. The show looks at the correlation between violence, the sexy and femininity through hair drawings, an installation and watercolor paintings. The opening reception will be Saturday, Sept. 14 6-9 p.m. Ms. Meza-DesPlas, who also is a published poet, will be giving a poetry reading at 7:30 p.m. in collaboration with WordSpace. The show will close Oct. 27.

About Meza-DesPlas
Rosemary Meza-DesPlas is a Mexican-American artist from Dallas, TX. Ms. Meza-DesPlas’ primary medium as a painter is watercolor. In addition to painting, she is also known for her hand-sewn human hair drawings. These are created on a variety of supports: mylar, canvas, and art papers.
She received her Master of Fine Arts Degree in Painting from the Maryland Institute College of Art (Hoffberger School of Painting) where she studied under the Abstract Expressionist Grace Hartigan, director of Hoffberger School of Painting. Rosemary Meza-DesPlas received her Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of North Texas where she studied with Vernon Fisher. Ms. Meza-DesPlas received the Arch and Anne Giles Kimbrough Fund Award from the Dallas Museum of Art in 1995.
Her work is included in the following collections: Art Museum of Southeast Texas, El Centro College, and Kinsey Institute for Research in Sex, Gender and Reproduction.
Rosemary Meza-DesPlas has exhibited her art at Espace Kiron in Paris, France, Actuel’Art Lagalerie, Paris, France, A.I.R. Gallery, New York City, NY, Mexic-Arte Museum, Austin, TX; ARC Gallery, Chicago, IL, Center for Latino Arts, Boston, MA, Arlington Museum of Art, Arlington, TX, and New Mexico Museum of Art, Santa Fe, NM.
Rosemary Meza-DesPlas is a Professor of Art at El Centro College in Dallas, TX. She has taught at El Centro College for 14 years. Ms. Meza-DesPlas is also a writer and self-published a poetry chapbook in 1995 called The Laughter Between My Legs. The 2007 video Triumph of our Communities: Artists and Organizations, produced by the Hispanic Research Center, Arizona State University features her.
