DALLAS: The Latino Cultural Center (LCC) celebrates Día del Niño with a free festival featuring more than a dozen arts activities for children and their families. The event takes place from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Saturday, April 27, 2014 at the Latino Cultural Center, 2600 Live Oak, Dallas 75204. It’s free and open to the public.
Día del Niño is an annual international celebration honoring children as the source of inspiration within every community. Activities at the LCC take place throughout the building allowing families to drop-in on arts and crafts workshops or view a theater performance. This year, Radio Disney joins the celebration.

12:00-2:00 pm – Children can have their photo taken with Violeta, the LCC’s mascot.

Express Children’s Theatre is Houston’s oldest and largest performing and arts education organization dedicated specifically to children and families. They are celebrating 22 years of creating and presenting professional, culturally diverse performing arts designed to entertain and educate.
Express Theatre was founded in 1991 with two shows, four actors and a shoestring budget. Growth has been steady and they now present an average of 250 performances each season reaching over 75,000 children in venues throughout Texas. Express has been the proud recipient of two Austin Circle of Drama Awards, three B. Iden Payne awards for children’s theatre, and a cover story in Stage Directions magazine. The Children’s Hilltop Festival produced at Miller Theatre each summer was named the 2010 Best Theatre Production for Children by Houston Press.
In their performance of The Three Little Pigs, three Pig Scouts, the pride of youthful swinedom, and they must set up camp to earn their merit badges. Their Scout Master is none other than The Big Bad Wolf. Can Scout Master Wolf lead this squad without losing his temper? Written by Alex Gardner, this musical adaptation is a lesson on achieving goals through cooperation.
About Children’s Day
A holiday celebrated in over 100 nations, including most Latin American countries, Día del Niño brings attention to the dreams and hopes of children as the source of inspiration within communities. The day is celebrated with programs to help children develop skills and build confidence to build a new generation of achievers, and as a forum to address advocacy for children’s issues. The designation of a universal day to honor children dates back to 1954, when the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution to recommend all countries institute a “Children’s Day” to be observed as a day of worldwide fraternity and understanding between children and to promote the welfare of children worldwide.

The Latino Cultural Center is a division of the City of Dallas Office of Cultural Affairs. Established in 2003, the LCC’s mission is to serve as a regional catalyst for the preservation, development and promotion of Latino and Hispanic arts and culture.
