Bless Me, Ultima

Cara Mía Theatre presents the Dallas Premiere of Bless Me, Ultima

By Rudolfo Anaya

Directed by David Lozano

February 15 – March 3, 2019

Bless Me, Ultima is a coming-of-age story of a boy who must choose his own path in a changing world.

Antonio Márez is six years old when Ultima enters his life. She is a curandera, one who heals with herbs and magic. ‘We cannot let her live her last days in loneliness,’ says Antonio’s mother. ‘It is not the way of our people,’ agrees his father. Ultima comes to live with Antonio’s family in New Mexico and graces him with the courage to face the challenges of childhood. Under Ultima’s guidance, Tony will probe the family ties that bind him, and he will find in himself the magical secrets of his ancestors.

Based on the award-winning Chicano novel by Rudolfo Anaya, Bless Me, Ultima is a story about faith, healing, and community reflective of Mexican-American cultures throughout the southwest United States.

Recommended for ages 10 & Up.
