Comic, light, entertaining. Synonyms for an actor who has captured the Mexican audience on screen and theater for many years and now comes to conquer the American market. Despite belonging to one of the most important acting dynasties in Mexico, talking with Bruno Bichir was very natural, like a chat amongst old friends. Bruno is not only humble but also passionate about his work. That’s what made it so easy to talk about his new film.
Un gallo con muchos huevos (Huevo Cartoon), opens in theaters across the U.S. on September 4 and features Bruno Bichir as the character of Toto. For fans of the Huevo Cartoon franchise films, this is the third film in the franchise where we get to see the evolution of Toto played by Bichir. Some of the most important actors in Mexico have joined the film: Angélica Vale, Maite Perroni, Omar Chaparro, Ninel Conde, Sergio Sendel, among others, giving life to the most amazing story about believing in yourself.
In a special interview for Informate DFW, Bruno was able to share the following about him and the film:
What was your process of preparation for the film and for the evolution of Toto, your character?
I’m glad you caught that [the evolution of Toto]. That is precisely what I like about this whole process. The character has an evolution and a drastic, important development. In every film, he goes through a process and comes out of every situation victorious, learning a lot from the problems he encounters. That would be almost unthinkable for a film of light entertainment for the whole family. That does not mean that the film is dense or boring, on the contrary it is very fun and entertaining and that’s what makes me happy about interpreting this character.
Did you follow the script or were you able to improvise?
The directors [Riva-Palacios] are very precise, rigorous and intelligent. That means this was serious work for me and I was committed to it 100% but it was also very bearable. At times I was given freedom to improvise but practically what the character says is what is written on the page. If we did happen to change something it was always meant to improve the script. In fact it is the best script of the three films!
How long did it take to record your part?
It took me five days, 8 hours every day, but the film was five years in the making. Actors recorded their voice separately so I did not get a chance to interact with them. Nevertheless, it has been a wonderful experience and one that I will remember for the rest of my life.
What’s next for Toto?
If the film becomes a success just like the previous ones, we will be obliged, with much love, to return with more adventure. It would be great to see Toto as a rooster with a family. But it’s a matter of time and I’ll leave it up to the directors [Riva Palacios] to decide.
Un Gallo Con Muchos Huevos (Huevo Cartoon), opens in theaters across the U.S. on September 4, 2015. The film is rated PG-13 with running time of 1hr and 38 minutes.
