Titche Elementary nominated for National Blue Ribbon honors
Edward Titche Elementary School is among three Dallas ISD schools nominated for the 2020 National Blue Ribbon School award.
The U.S. Department of Education awards the Blue Ribbon recognition to schools where students perform at very high levels or where exemplary progress is being made toward closing achievement gaps.
After constantly being rated as one of the state’s lowest-performing campuses and facing closure in 2017 if it didn’t meet state standards, Titche Elementary underwent a tremendous transformation as part of the Accelerating Campus Excellence Initiative, which incentives high-performing teachers and campus leaders to voluntarily work at low-performing schools.
Congratulations to Principal Damien Stovall and to all the Titche Elementary staff for this accomplishment! Thank you for your commitment to our students.
Dallas County Promise – The Second Step
I’d also like to recognize the thousands of Dallas County high school seniors who completed the Promise Pledge by Feb. 7! All eligible high school seniors who adhered to the deadline are qualified for the Dallas County Promise (DCP) last-dollar tuition scholarship.
The DCP scholarship will cover any cost of tuition that need-based aid and scholarships do not cover. In order to meet the requirements for this scholarship program, students must submit an application for financial aid by March 6. The student must figure out whether she or he is eligible for FAFSA or TASFA, and must abide to all DCP deadlines
What’s the difference between FAFSA and TASFA?
All American citizens, permanent residents and other eligible non-US citizens can request federal funds to help with college expenses by submitting the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Students can go online to apply.
Also, any student who isn’t eligible to complete the FAFSA can check their eligibility for student aid from the state and complete the Texas Application for State Financial Aid (TASFA).
While this process might sound overwhelming, I’d like to remind you that you’re not alone.
College-access advisors are available at most Dallas ISD high schools, including Samuell, Seagoville and Spruce. They assist families with college-readiness tasks, such as submission of college applications, FAFSA / TASFA completion, scheduling college visits and SAT / ACT registration.
Please, plan ahead and don’t leave these tasks for the last minute!
Read For Me – March 7
Dallas ISD’s Reading and Language Arts Department will give away over 10,000 books at Read for Me on March 7. Read for Me is an annual, free and family-friendly event where we share our passion for reading and celebrating stories from around the world. The event will take place at W.H. Adamson High School from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Free breakfast, lunch and parking will be provided.
