Dallas Park and Recreation launches a weekly market at Fair Park and expands community programs. Residents can shop local vendors, enjoy fresh food, and take part in new activities.
Residents now have a new reason to visit Fair Park. Dallas Park and Recreation Department has launched a weekly community market and expanded recreational programs designed to bring families, local vendors, and neighbors together in one of Dallas’ most historic spaces.
Good Local Markets kicks off its 18th season with the Fair Park Farmers Market at 3535 Grand Avenue near the Leonhardt Lagoon. Marketgoers can expect 60 to nearly 100 vendors offering fresh produce, locally made products, and specialty goods. The market is open 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. March through July. It is closed during the State Fair and resumes operations later in the year.
The new initiative transforms the park into a lively gathering place where visitors can shop local goods, enjoy fresh food, and participate in engaging activities.
Dallas City Council member Adam Bazaldua expressed excitement for the market’s impact on the community.
“I can’t state enough how much I’m personally looking forward to seeing a recurring Farmers Market at Fair Park. There’s so much demand in South Dallas for fresh foods that I’m confident the Fair Park Farmers Market will become a staple in the routine of both South Dallas neighbors and visitors alike. I’m elated to see our parks department working hard to create consistent programming for Fair Park.
A New Weekly Market for the Community
The new weekly market gives Dallas residents access to locally grown produce, handmade products, and unique artisan goods. Shoppers can explore vendor booths featuring fresh fruits and vegetables, baked goods, handcrafted items, and specialty foods.
The market also creates new opportunities for small businesses and local farmers to connect directly with the community. Visitors can support local entrepreneurs while enjoying a vibrant outdoor shopping experience.
Families can stroll through the market, discover new vendors, and spend the day enjoying the park’s open green spaces.
Expanded Programs Bring More Activities to Fair Park
Alongside the weekly market, Dallas Park and Recreation has introduced new programs designed to serve residents of all ages. These activities include wellness programs, family-friendly events, cultural experiences, and recreational classes.
The expanded programming encourages residents to stay active, learn new skills, and build stronger community connections.
Visitors can expect activities such as fitness sessions, youth programming, arts and cultural experiences, and seasonal events throughout the year.
As part of the city’s ongoing efforts to reconnect Fair Park to surrounding communities, Arun Agarwal, President, Dallas Park and Recreation board, highlighted the value of partnerships that support families and local businesses.
“Through our partnership with Good Local Markets, the market is a critical resource for families, providing them access to fresh, healthy food while supporting area farmers and small businesses. It’s good for our community and the local economy. When cities and nonprofits work together, we create opportunities, make the economy strong, and keep Fair Park a place where everyone is welcome.”
Revitalizing a Historic Dallas Destination
Located just minutes from downtown, Fair Park remains one of the city’s most iconic destinations. The new weekly market and expanded programming help activate the park’s public spaces while creating welcoming opportunities for residents and visitors to gather.
Through initiatives like this, the Dallas Park and Recreation Department continues its mission to provide accessible recreational opportunities and strengthen communities across Dallas.
“We’re focused on keeping the park open and active all year long and making it easier for our communities to come in. With new programming, Fair Park is a lively space where everyone can have fun and create new memories. We will continue to invest in safety and infrastructure improvements so that Fair Park is accessible and inviting for visitors,” said John D. Jenkins, Director, Dallas Park and Recreation Department.
The weekly market invites residents to shop local, enjoy the outdoors, and experience the energy of one of Dallas’ most beloved parks.
